When I think of peace and serenity in Ghana, my mind immediately takes me to Aburi Botanical Gardens. Nestled in the hills just about an hour’s drive from Accra, this place is a breath of fresh air. As soon as you step out of the car, you’re hit with that cool mountain breeze, and trust me, it’s a perfect escape from the city heat.

My Day at Aburi Gardens

I visited the gardens on a weekday morning, which I highly recommend if you want to avoid the weekend crowd. Walking in, you’re greeted by a long row of majestic palm trees—talk about setting the vibe right! I could immediately feel the stress melt away.

The garden is HUGE! There’s so much to see, from massive trees with deep histories to lush lawns where you can just sit and chill. My personal highlight was the Tree of Life—this massive silk cotton tree that feels like it’s straight out of a fantasy book. It’s truly awe-inspiring.

I didn’t rush through the garden either. I took my time, soaking in the nature around me, and ended up at this random old helicopter parked in the middle of the garden (yep, a real one!). It’s perfect for quirky photo ops. If you love capturing moments like I do, this place is an Instagram dream.

Insider Tips:

Get a Guide: I highly recommend taking a guided tour. For just a little extra, you’ll learn so much about the history of the garden and the medicinal uses of the plants. Plus, the guides are super friendly and know their stuff!

Pack Snacks: Trust me, bring some snacks or even a picnic lunch. There are plenty of spots to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to extend your stay.

Morning Vibes: Go in the morning for the best lighting if you’re into photography. The garden just glows, and you can capture some stunning shots without a lot of people around.

Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be walking quite a bit, so wear comfy shoes. The grounds are easy to navigate, but you’ll definitely want to explore as much as possible.
