Hey y’all! If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure in Ghana, you’ve got to check out Kakum National Park. As someone who loves nature and a little thrill, this place was right up my alley. I’m all about those unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and Kakum definitely delivered!
The first thing that hit me when I got to Kakum was how alive the place felt—birds singing, trees swaying, and that fresh forest air. But let me get straight to the star of the show: the canopy walkway. Y’all, this is no ordinary walk. It’s about 30 meters up, swinging between treetops, and trust me, if you’ve got a fear of heights like me, it’s gonna test you! But after that first step, I was all in.
Walking on that narrow, swaying bridge gave me the most amazing views of the rainforest below. I felt like I was in a nature documentary. And although I didn’t see any monkeys (sadly!), hearing them in the distance made it feel like I was deep in the wild.
I also joined a guided tour, which was super cool. Our guide was local, and the way he shared stories about the forest and its animals made everything come to life. It wasn’t just about the canopy; it was about understanding the heartbeat of the forest.
With all that fear, it’s much easier to stay at home in our comfort
zones than to break out and travel.
If you’re thinking about heading to Kakum (and trust me, you should), here are some tips to make your trip smooth and fun:
Get There Early: This is key! Get there as soon as they open (around 6 AM) to beat the crowd and enjoy the peace of the forest. Plus, it’s cooler in the morning, which is a bonus.
Dress for Adventure: Those canopy walkways might look easy, but you’ll want to wear comfy shoes because the hike up can be a little steep. Also, don’t forget some bug spray—nature loves us, but the mosquitoes do too!
Take the Guided Tour: Don’t sleep on this. The guides know their stuff and will help you see things you might miss on your own, like rare birds and hidden wildlife. Plus, it’s a great way to support local tourism.
Stay Hydrated, Sis: Bring a water bottle and some snacks! Once you’re in the park, there aren’t many options for food, and you don’t want to be caught out there thirsty.
Snap Those Pics!: You already know I had my camera ready. The canopy views are breathtaking, and whether you’re snapping pics for Instagram or your own memories, you won’t want to miss capturing that view.

Elmina Castle (approx. 50 minutes from Kakum): Another UNESCO-listed site, Elmina Castle is one of the oldest European buildings in sub-Saharan Africa, rich in history and cultural significance.
