Coron has so much more to offer beyond its famous island-hopping tours, and we discovered this firsthand during an amazing day exploring the mainland by scooter. My sister Caro, some friends, and I set out on a spontaneous adventure, excited to see what surprises the island had in store for us. From breathtaking viewpoints to a magical night of fireflies and glowing plankton, this day was full of incredible moments. Here’s a recap of our scooter adventure around Coron:
We kicked off our day with a scenic ride through the lush countryside, enjoying the fresh breeze and freedom that comes with having your own scooter. After about 45 minutes of riding, we reached the base of Mount Talapay, a lesser-known viewpoint that offers some of the most stunning panoramic views in Coron.
The hike up was short but steep, so we took it slow, chatting and laughing along the way. Once we reached the top, the view was absolutely worth it—rolling hills, scattered islands, and endless greenery stretched out before us. It felt like we were on top of the world, and we spent some time just soaking it all in.
After the climb, we were more than ready for a good meal, so we hopped back on our scooters and made our way to the Triangle Floating House. This unique floating restaurant, tucked away in the mangroves, was the perfect spot to refuel. We took a short boat ride to reach the floating house, and the peacefulness of the place instantly put us at ease.
The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the local dishes were full of flavor—definitely a highlight for us foodies. We even got to chat with the friendly staff, who shared some interesting facts about the mangroves and the local ecosystem. It was a lovely, laid-back lunch experience, perfect for recharging before our next adventure.
One of the best things about exploring Coron by scooter is the freedom to make spontaneous stops, and that’s exactly what we did as we rode through the countryside in the late afternoon. The golden light of the setting sun made everything look even more beautiful, and we couldn’t resist pulling over to snap photos and take in the view.
Riding through the quiet roads, surrounded by nature, with the sun setting on the horizon, was a moment we won’t soon forget. It felt like time slowed down, and we just soaked in the beauty of Coron at our own pace.
As night fell, we arrived at Kingfisher Park, where the magic truly began. We walked along a bridge to see the fireflies, the trees came alive with thousands of tiny, glowing lights. It was like being in a fairytale, with the fireflies twinkling all around us.
But the night wasn’t over yet! We experienced another natural wonder—bioluminescent plankton. We dipped our feets in the water, and with every movement, the plankton lit up, creating a mesmerizing glow. It was pure magic, and we were all in awe of nature’s beauty.
