ey y’all, it’s Christine back with another exciting NYC experience to add to your travel bucket list! This time, we’re taking you through one of the most iconic spots in New York City – Central Park – and trust me, even in January, it’s a must-see.
So, here we were, bundled up in our warmest coats, because let’s be real – New York winters are no joke! The temperatures were pretty chilly, but we had luck with a bright and sunny day with clear blue skies. Cetral Park in January may be cold, but it has something magical when the sun hits that crisp winter ai and the park becomes breathtakingly beautiful.
One thing we love about NYC is how it’s packed with cultural treasures. As we strolled through Central Park, we passed by some spots that deserve a mention. First up, we discovered The Africa Center right near the park, which was hosting this incredible art exhibition. A great part of the exhibition was fro free and located in the cafe area. We were indeed impresed by the vibrant colors and thought-provoking pieces celebrating African heritage in the heart of Manhattan. We took a little lunch break and enjoyed some delicious West African food! Y’all, if you’ve never had jollof rice or suya before, you are missing out. This spot serves bowls at its best. We highly recommend it for a flavorful meal that’ll warm you right up.
After fueling up with some soul food, we continued our journey to the Museum of the City of New York. This museum was a whole vibe, giving us a deeper look into the history and culture of the city that never sleeps. It’s the perfect place to learn about how New York became the diverse and bustling metropolis it is today. If you’re a history buff or just love learning about the places you visit, this is a must-stop.
We noticed a lot of people renting those city bikes to explore Central Park, which is usually a fantastic way to cover more ground. But let me tell you – as tempting as it was, but with that cold air? With the chill biting at our faces, we decided to skip the bikes for another time maybe during summer.
After we finished up in Central Park, we made our way down to Downtown Manhattan. But hold up – there’s so much to say about what we discovered there, especially when it comes to food! So, stay alert for our next blog post where we spill all the tea on where to eat and what to check out in the downtown area.
Maximize your Central Park visit by going early for peaceful vibes and free walking tours. Take advantage of pay-what-you-wish days at nearby museums like the Museum of the City of New York. Save money by grabbing a bagel or packing snacks, and in warmer months, rent a city bike for an affordable way to explore the park.

Just make sure you’re dressed for the weather, and who knows? You might even spot some early morning joggers braving the cold like true New Yorkers.
Until next time, keep exploring and stay warm out there!
