I

f you’re looking for a peaceful luxury getaway near Accra, let me tell you about our unforgettable stay at the Bon Hotel Crown Forest — one of Ghana’s newest eco-luxury resorts that truly deserves a spot on your Ghana travel bucket list.

How to Get There

The Crown Forest Bon Hotel is located about 1.5–2 hours from Accra, depending on traffic. It’s easy to find using Google Maps, and the drive itself already gives you a glimpse of Ghana’s beautiful countryside. The closer you get, the more you’ll feel the calm energy of nature take over.

First Impressions

The entrance alone will take your breath away — a massive, beautifully designed gateway that feels like you’re entering a hidden world. Once we arrived, we were warmly welcomed right at the parking area. A staff member personally picked us up and drove us to the hotel reception. The team wore traditional Kente outfits, adding a touch of cultural authenticity that made the welcome even more special.

The entire property is extremely well maintained — the lawns are neatly trimmed, the flowers blooming, and you can actually see the staff taking care of the gardens with so much dedication.

A Rocky Start Turned Perfect Stay

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side when we arrived — heavy rain meant the game drive couldn’t take place, and only quad bike safaris were available. Since we were traveling with a group that included kids, this option wasn’t suitable for everyone.

But here’s where the Crown Forest team really stood out — they were incredibly understanding and offered us a significant discount on an overnight stay in their best suite. And honestly? That turned out to be one of the most magical stays we’ve ever had in Ghana.

Sleepover Experience

As overnight guests, we had free access to the stunning pool area, which looked like something straight out of a travel magazine — a modern pool design with a stone wall waterfall as the centerpiece and panoramic views of lush greenery all around.

Our suite was slightly away from the main building, giving us full privacy. We even had our own security guard for the night, which made us feel completely safe and cared for.

The interior was luxurious yet natural, decorated with an Afro-boho vibe that matched the surrounding forest perfectly. The bathroom was a dream — a modern design with a freestanding bathtub, skylight, and the kind of lighting that makes you want to spend hours relaxing. Everything was spotless and beautifully maintained.

The best part? Our private terrace overlooking a lake and forest — morning coffee there felt like pure peace.

The Game Drive

The next morning, the sun finally came out, and we got to experience the long-awaited game drive!
There are three time slots — 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 2:00 PM — and I highly recommend the 9 AM slot. That’s when you’re most likely to see a wide range of animals and still have the rest of the day to enjoy the hotel’s other activities like horse riding and kayaking.

Our guide was fun, knowledgeable, and super interactive — he made the whole experience lively with games and quizzes about the local flora, fauna, and wildlife. We learned so many interesting facts and felt truly engaged throughout the ride.

The highlight of the drive? Spotting giraffes, zebras, and antelopes roaming freely in their natural space! We didn’t get to see the crocodiles that day (they do live in the area), but it was still an amazing adventure.

If you’re planning just a day visit, you can also book a day pass that includes the game drive, lunch, and a water activity — a great option for travelers who don’t stay overnight but still want to enjoy the full experience.

Food & Dining

After the safari, we went on a relaxing pedal boat ride along the resort’s artificial river, followed by a barbecue treat and great music.

The property has two restaurants: one exclusively for in-house guests, offering a private, relaxed atmosphere, and another for day visitorsThe food was delicious — rich flavors, generous portions, and even special kids’ meals that were perfect for families.

Final Thoughts

Our stay at Bon Hotel Crown Forest was truly outstanding — a beautiful mix of luxury, nature, and Ghanaian hospitality. The fact that the resort only opened a few months ago made it even more exciting to be among the first to experience it.

From the warm welcome and stylish Afro-boho suites to the wildlife encounters and delicious food, everything felt thoughtfully designed to create a relaxing, unforgettable escape from the city.

This trip easily became one of our top bucket list experiences in Ghana, and I can’t recommend it enough — whether you’re visiting as a couple, family, or group of friends.
